Procrastination: How to Break Free from the Unworthiness Cycle (And Get Sh*t Done!) πŸ’ͺ

Sep 22, 2024

We’ve all been there: staring at a task we know we need to tackle, yet somehow we find ourselves reorganizing our closet, scrolling through social media, or—you know—packing a suitcase we don’t need for another week. πŸ™„

I recently had one of those moments. I was supposed to record a podcast episode, but instead, I found myself meticulously organizing my suitcase. Why? Because procrastination loves to sneak in when we’re feeling overwhelmed or unworthy.

But here’s the real talk: Procrastination often stems from something deeper—what I call the unworthiness cycle. This cycle includes feelings of self-shame, self-pity, self-guilt, and ultimately, self-sabotage. And it all leads to one thing: procrastination.

Why Do We Wait?

Have you ever asked yourself, “Why am I waiting to get this done?” Sometimes we think, I’ll do it later because the task seems daunting or we question whether it’s even worth our time. But in reality, avoiding it drains more energy than just doing it. It’s like having a bunch of browser tabs open in your head, slowing everything down.

The longer we wait, the bigger it feels. The irony? It usually takes less time and energy to handle the task than it does to avoid it!

Breaking the Cycle

So how do we get out of the unworthiness-procrastination cycle? The answer is simpler than you might think: baby steps.

Here’s a challenge for you—start small. Break down your tasks into bite-sized pieces, and cross them off one by one. Not only will this help you build momentum, but your brain will also give you a pat on the back with every little win. That’s the dopamine rush you need to keep going!

Pro Tip: Create an Inspiring Environment

It’s easier to tackle your to-do list when you feel inspired. So, whether it’s decluttering your workspace, lighting a candle, or putting on your favorite music, create an environment that gets you in the mood to create and achieve.

Now, tell me—what’s your go-to procrastination pattern? We all have one!

Let’s break the cycle and get sh*t done, one baby step at a time.
